Designing Your Kitchen

Remodelling a kitchen or having to choose a kitchen design is never an easy task.  There are hundreds of designs for all kitchen shapes and sizes and it is no use choosing a design which will not suit your type of kitchen as your kitchen might be too small or might not be open planned and so forth.  Before you can start you need to take all the necessary measurements so that you know exactly what you have to work with and what size your units and so forth has to be.

First of all you need to measure the height of the ceiling.  This is an important step as this will determine how high your kitchen will be.  The piece of wood used to close the gap between the roof and the wall unit should be at least 20mm wide.  Next you will measure the length of each wall.  It is important to measure the walls as you need to know what you have to work with when it comes to the kitchen units.  Next you need to measure the distance of the wall to the window.  This is done in the same way you measured the length of the walls.  If your measurements are correct designing a kitchen will be very easy.  Now you measure the distance from the floor to the bottom of the window.  This will give you the height of the window allowing you to determine what height the kitchen units can be in those specific areas.  Measure the width and height of all the doors and windows in the kitchen.

Now you measure the distance from the wall to the fridge as well as the oven plug point and don’t forget to measure the distance from the washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher plug point to the wall should you have those appliances in the kitchen.  Once all the measurements have been taken you need to repeat the entire process to make one hundred percent sure that all the measurements are correct.  There is nothing worse than designing and have everything made just to find that the units, windows and door do not fit properly.
