Choosing Your Floor Covering

Before deciding on the appropriate floor covering you need to ponder a number of points before making your final decision. The first thing that you need to decide is the look that you are going for and that can eliminate at least one type of floor covering, the next thing that you need to ponder is whether or not it will be viable to have tiles, carpets or wood flooring. There are pros and cons for each of these different types of floor coverings.
Let us start with wood flooring.

Wood flooring is durable, however is expensive. It looks good, but requires high maintenance in most cases. If you have children and pets, wood flooring is not advisable due to the fact that it can scratch very easily. Wood flooring is considered to be a high class type of flooring and brings an unmatched elegance to your home. Wood flooring is however easy to clean and requires no chemicals. In actual fact it is advisable not to use any chemicals to clean the floor as it could damage the wood.

Another option as a floor covering is tiles. Tiles may not be as elegant as wood flooring, but are great for households with pets and children. They are easy to clean and do not scratch as easily as wood flooring does. On the flip side of things is that tiles make your house cold, the grout between the tiles can also collect dirt and bacteria. If you or someone in your family suffers from allergies then it is not advisable to use a floor covering that is prone to bacteria and dust. You best option in this case is to opt for wood flooring as it is great for those with allergies. If you do not have the funds available for wood flooring you can always opt for laminate flooring that looks like wood. It is also easy to clean and does not attract bacteria that cause allergies.

Laminate flooring is a great alternative, but like wood it is prone to scratches. Carpeting is kind of a null and void floor covering at this stage, however it does provide warmth and provided you are not a wine drinker, clumsy and do not have pets or children could be considered a good option. Carpeting is ideal for bedrooms as it provides warmth during cols months. Choose wisely when choosing you floor covering as it is there to stay for a long time.
